
A man in his 30s was shot dead by police today in Taree, after he allegedly pointed a firearm at officers responding to a call.
Police were called to the car park of Manning Base Hospital early this afternoon in response to a report of shots being fired in the vicinity.

When the officers went to approach the man, they allege he pointed the firearm towards them in a threatening manner. This posed a threat to the officers who, as they should, responded by firing at the man.
The man was wounded, received immediate medical assistance and was taken to hospital, by died shortly after arriving. Fortunately nobody else involved was injured in this altercation.

According to NSW Police, a critical incident investigation team is going to be assigned to look into the incident, to determine why this individual acted the way they did, and investigate any mitigating factors that led to this tragic result.
