Shortly after 2 am early Thursday morning, two teenage boys in Sydney’s west allegedly opened fire on a barbershop located at Mount Druitt Westfield.

The two boys allegedly opened fire on the barbershop and took off shortly after in a Ute. It is said that not long after this, police officers from the Mount Druitt Area Command attempted to apprehend a Ute which was driving in a rather erratic manner.
When approached by the police vehicle, the Ute failed to stop and a pursuit ensued. Police chased the Ute and attempted to keep up with it, until it crashed into a car parked on the side of the road on Moody Street.

Both boys were arrested at the scene after an assessment for injuries. After a thorough search of the vehicle, police seized two balaclavas, a jerry can which contained petrol and two firearms, most likely used in the shooting.
Police were also able to connect the jerry can discovery to a car fire nearby on Football Drive at Bungarribee. The driver of the vehicle was charged with damaging property with fire, firing a firearm at a dwelling, possession of a firearm and was also slapped with driving offences.

The passenger was also charged with damaging property with fire and firing a firearm at a dwelling, as well as possession of an unauthorised firearm in a public place. The two 17 year old boys were denied bail and were made to attend a Children’s court today. Yet another mortifying example of youth crime in Western Sydney. This sort of behaviour seems to be happening more and more in these areas. What is most shocking is the fact that two 17 year old boys, who are not even able to get their hands on alcohol, cigarettes or gamble, were able to get their hands on firearms and commit such serious and damaging crimes. Something is going to have to change.
